CHENNAI: Before the festival of lights, Diwali, travel search engines are reporting a surge in search activities. For example, prior to Diwali, Wego has seen spike in flight searches 20 days with searches for international locales increasing approximately 50% than last year.
If we talk about the biggest change compared to last year, it was around 98% traffic looked for domestic travel and not international.
“We have seen raising interest in a variety of international locations from Indian travelers over the year, apart from traditionally famous destinations,” Jackson Fernandez, managing director of Wego India, added. “In this country, travelers are showing interest for adventure and spending more time in online researching alternate travel experiences, particularly through their smart phones,” he said.
“These results point that travel agencies are becoming advanced with their destination marketing strategies and catching the attention of Indian travelers as ever before. Moreover, airlines also have brought in irresistible pricing structures for tempting more numbers of travelers to international locations,” Fernandez added. Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Dubai and Bali have been in the list of most popular international destination searches, while coming to domestic locations, New Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai and Goa are in top travel list.
The biggest growth by the country was for long drag destinations like UK, U.S., Australia, China, Canada, France, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. In fact, 52 countries had increase in outbound travel from India in 2014. Travelers in Delhi exceeded the number of outbound international flight searches and few of the destinations include Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai.
Generally most of the people travel to their home for spending quality time with family and friends while celebrating Diwali, but we have also found growth in searches to best domestic holiday packages in India like Goa. Although Diwali is one of the most prominent festivals in India, yet it seems, an array of travelers keep travel planning until closer to Diwali,” Fernandez added.
